Creative Cycle is the design studio I co-founded with Jose Caicedo. Not an agency in the traditional sense — a studio that operates as a strategic extension of the organizations we work with. We designed the brand, built the website, and shaped the positioning from zero.

What happens when you stop freelancing and start building a studio with a point of view? One that's served the World Bank, the Smithsonian, Black Girls CODE, and AARP — and still feels like a partner, not a vendor.

THE CHALLENGE:

Starting a design studio in Washington D.C. means competing with agencies that have massive teams, government contract vehicles, and decades of reputation. We had none of that. What we had was a thesis: staying intentionally small is a strategic advantage, not a limitation. The client gets the senior thinking, not the junior team that inherits the work after the pitch.

But that thesis needed a brand. Not just a logo and a website — a complete positioning that explained why a focused studio could outperform teams ten times its size. The brand had to attract mission-driven organizations, communicate craft and strategic thinking simultaneously, and feel warm without feeling amateur.

THE APPROACH:

We built the positioning around a concept we call "Homemade Design" — the idea that great work is made from scratch, with care, adjusted to taste. It's a cooking metaphor that runs through everything: the studio is "the kitchen," the work is "freshly made," the process "adjusts to your unique flavor." It sounds playful, but it's doing real strategic work — it signals handcraft in a market full of assembly-line agencies, and it makes the studio's size feel like an advantage, not a compromise.

The website was designed and built in Framer — responsive, fast, with case study depth that most studios our size don't invest in. We designed the visual system, wrote the copy, and structured the information architecture around how potential clients actually evaluate small studios: work first, process second, pricing transparent.

The retainer model ($3,500/month for 40 hours with a dedicated art director) is published openly on the site. Most agencies hide pricing. We made it a feature — it filters the right clients in and the wrong ones out before anyone gets on a call.

Creative Cycle is the proof that the bridge concept works at the business level, not just the project level. A studio built by people from different backgrounds, translating between strategy and craft for organizations that can't afford to get it wrong. The studio is small on purpose. The work isn't.

• Client roster includes the World Bank, AARP, Smithsonian Anacostia Community Museum, PenFed Foundation, Black Girls CODE × Nike, IronArch Technologies, and The Sentencing Project

• 85% of business from referrals and repeat clients
